Arraignment for a former LAPD officer charged with killing a man outside a Pomona nightclub was delayed again Tuesday, to the disappointment of the victim's family.
Henry Solis, 27, is charged with murder, assault with a firearm and an allegation that he discharged a handgun in the March 13 death of 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez Jr. outside a bar in Pomona.
His arraignment was rescheduled for July 17 and bail remains at $10 million. It was the third time the arraignment had been postponed.
Solis' new attorneys, Joe Dane and Miranda McCroskey, taking over from a public defender, asked for a delay in the arraignment.

A 75-year-old woman was killed Sunday in Koreatown after she was struck by a vehicle, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of South Manhattan Place, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.

Nine people were killed when a sightseeing plane crashed in Alaska on Thursday, according to Promech Air, the company giving the tours. Eight of the people were on a cruise, which departed from Seattle on Saturday.
The crash happened around 12:20 p.m. PDT about 20 miles northeast of Ketchikan, near Ella Lake, according to officials.
Promech Air is an airline based in Ketchikan.

A 24-year-old man from San Francisco died while attending the Electric Daisy Carnival rave in Las Vegas, the coroner said Wednesday.
Nicholas Austin Tom was declared dead at 3:25 a.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where the rave was being held, a Clark County coroner’s official said. The cause of death is pending; toxicology tests usually takes several weeks.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nicholas Tom who passed away over the weekend,” the company that runs the Electric Daisy Carnival, Los Angeles-based Insomniac Inc., said in a statement. “We ask all of our fans to take care of themselves and look out for one another at all events.”

Murder charges have been filed against three men suspected of killing a 19-year-old in South L.A. over his red shoes, police said Tuesday.
Dwight Smith, 30, and Kevin Johnson, 25, were arrested last week on suspicion of murder, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling. Murder charges were filed Friday against the two and an additional charge was filed against 27-year-old Kanasho Johns.

Ventura County firefighters Monday were battling a fast-moving brush fire in a riverbed near the Santa Paula Airport.
The blaze, called the River fire, had spread to about 95 acres by 3:15 p.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
Air crews were dropping flame retardant on the fire, which was reported about 1 p.m. in the Santa Clara River, Santa Paula Fire Department spokesman Andy VanSciver said via Periscope.
Fire Department video footage showed thick, black smoke coming from the riverbed. VanSciver said the eastward-moving blaze was being fueled by winds and dry brush.

Homicide detectives are seeking three suspects in the shooting death late Friday of a South Los Angeles taco vendor.
The shooting occurred at 10:50 p.m. when one of three men who approached the vendor on foot shot him in the face during a possible robbery attempt, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said Sunday.
The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, at the intersection of East 51st Street and McKinley Avenue, she said.

Law enforcement agents are now trying to figure out how and why this 21-year-old man transformed his alienation into calculated rage — an attack in which Roof is accused of killing nine African Americans at a church Wednesday. Not only did he drive two hours from his home, but he also spent an hour praying with his victims, authorities say.
So far, the portrait they are drawing of Roof is that of a "lone wolf," someone disconnected from traditional hate or terrorist groups, who looked online for his inspiration and struck without detection.

Burial and funeral preparations are underway for six students who were killed when a balcony collapsed during a birthday party in Berkeley.
Family members are expected to view the six students, five of whom were Irish, and make arrangements to return their bodies to Ireland by Sunday or Monday, Father Aidan McAleenan told Newstalk Belfast. McAleenan, a pastor in Oakland, is working with the victims’ families.
A joint funeral will be held in Rohnert Park for victims Olivia Burke and Ashley Donohoe, who were cousins, he said. Donohoe, 22, will be buried in the Bay Area, while Burke, 21, will be laid to rest in Dublin, Ireland.

A 21-year-old man died Wednesday after being crushed by heavy equipment at a concrete and asphalt recycling company in Sun Valley, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the industrial site in the 9000 block of Bradley Avenue about 1:45 p.m. and found the man dead at the scene, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Officials described the death as an accident.
Los Angeles police Det. Bill Bustos told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that a front loader was moving to another section of the work area when it backed up and ran over the man, killing him.

The Biswas family was trying to sleep, but the group partying on the balcony a floor above them was too loud.
At 12:42 a.m. Tuesday, they heard a crack and the building shuddered. Silvia Biswas jumped out of bed, thinking an earthquake had struck and the apartments were about to collapse.
When she looked out the window, she saw people lying on the ground. No one was screaming. The street was silent.
She thought they might be acting until she and her teenage son, Jason, went downstairs. They discovered dead and grievously injured victims around the sidewalk and curb, lying amid bits of stucco and red party cups.

A shooting Sunday night in South Los Angeles left one man dead and two people injured, including a 3-year-old child, authorities said.
About 8:30 p.m., two men began shooting at two other men who were walking into a liquor store in the 1700 block of Firestone Boulevard, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joseph William said.
A 3-year-old riding in a vehicle passing by in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood was injured by glass that shattered when a stray bullet struck the vehicle, William said.

A 27-year-old San Diego man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of trying to kill a Carlsbad police officer by firing at the officer's vehicle to avoid being pulled over in his truck and questioned about a burglary.
Cameron Avery Valentine was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, vehicle burglary and evading a police officer. He was arrested at a gas station in San Diego.
Valentine is suspected of firing at an officer early Wednesday morning as the officer was attempting to have him pull over his Ford Ranger pickup truck. The vehicle was linked to a burglary reported just minutes earlier, Carlsbad police said.

Six people were injured Wednesday night when a transit bus collided with a pickup truck and struck a light pole in Lakewood, authorities said.
The Long Beach Transit bus was en route to downtown Long Beach from Bellflower when the accident happened about 6:10 p.m. at Woodruff Avenue and Centralia Street, said city transit spokesman Kevin Lee.
All four passengers on board were taken to the hospital with injuries, Lee said.

The Los Angeles Police Commission issued a mixed ruling Tuesday in last year’s killing of a mentally ill black man, finding that one officer was wrong to use deadly force but clearing another in the fatal shooting.
The board also faulted both officers for their decisions to draw their weapons at different points during the confrontation with Ezell Ford and disapproved of the tactics used by one of the officers.
The unanimous ruling brought to a close a 10-month investigation into a case that fanned anger and ignited protests over the use of deadly force by police.

Police say that Oliver James looked like a Los Angeles Police Department officer. He had a gun, a uniform, a badge, a patrol belt and even a black-and-white sedan, authorities said.
The 44-year-old from Glendale had a name plate, and his car had police lights on top.
When police in Ventura approached James on Sunday about 1 p.m. near Capri Avenue and Johnson Drive, he introduced himself as an off-duty LAPD officer, according to the city's Police Department.

Algernon Rieux’s mother pounded on the front door of his South Los Angeles apartment early Thursday. Her urgent clamor came too late.
Rieux was due at the Inglewood courthouse in about half an hour. Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department later said she wanted to make sure her 26-year-old son showed up to court.

A 51-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Santa Clarita was spotted driving a semi in New York on Monday and taken into custody, according to authorities.
Since May 6, Michael J. McGlothan has been tracked by Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators. Detectives alerted the New York State Police to McGothan's whereabouts Monday, which led to his arrest.
McGlothan is suspected of fatally shooting 21-year-old Ledarion Allen Jr. in an apartment in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway.

Firefighters in the Coachella Valley plan on working into the night Monday as they battle a brush fire that has grown to 80 acres and is 40% contained, authorities said.
The fire was first reported shortly after 10 a.m. and swiftly spread through the dense vegetation near Avenue 66 and Harrison Street in Thermal, according to Cal Fire spokesman Capt. Lucas Spelman.
The blaze mostly stopped spreading in the late afternoon, but temperatures of up to 115 degrees have slowed the 60 firefighters on the scene.

Police are still looking for two suspects in an attempted kidnapping that occurred Thursday in Palos Verdes Estates.
They have released a sketch of one of the suspects, who is described as a white, middle-aged male with a medium build, tan skin and dark brown hair cut close to his head. They do not have any information on the second suspect.
The incident took place at 3:30 p.m. when an 11-year-old boy was walking home from a bus stop near Coronel Plaza and Via Margarita, according to a police report.
A brown Chevy van pulled up alongside the boy and the driver asked for directions to "the promenade."
