At least three wounded in Isla Vista, nearly a year after deadly rampage; UCSB lockdown lifted

A shooting in Isla Vista on Monday night near the campus of UC Santa Barbara left at least three men injured, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde Road, according to officials with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.

Of the three men taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, two were wounded by gunfire and one was injured in an assault, county fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni said.

According to law enforcement officials, the incident involved two assailants and two victims. One of the assailants fled in a white, four-door sedan.

Investigators were continuing to search for the assailant that fled, and a law enforcement source said that person is possibly injured.

The second assailant was believed to be among those wounded, Undersheriff Bernard Melekian said.

The university had placed a lockdown on dorms and advised students, faculty and staff to shelter in place after reports of the incident emerged.
